Self(ish)-Love

Self-Love. We’re currently in a time where caring for yourself, embracing little victories, and keeping our mental health has become a personal focus for many. Working for yourself and being the best version that you can be is a great message, but it’s slowly distorting itself into a selfish trend.

Of course, I don’t speak on everyone that’s on their own personal journey of mental stability and acceptance. I am talking about the ones that are using the excuse of “finding themselves” in order to willingly get into situations where they know it will only benefit themselves. Or using this whole self-love movement in order to shower themselves with gifts because they quote and quote deserve it.

Don’t get me wrong. I love the movement. I just don’t agree with what it’s become or how it’s achieved with a majority of self-diagnosed people that have “anxiety.” At its core, I believe that self-love is for stress management and keeping a healthy lifestyle but it should be achieved in ways that keep a lasting impression on your own wellbeing. Treating yourself and going out on trips are great and all but that only does so much in the moment. Then the next time you find yourself in a tough spot, you yearn for more of those same things. Instead, create positive habits and quit the detrimental ones. Find time to meditate and learn. Treat your body well because it is an investment that will prolong your life.
